Future Transfer Students

All incoming transfer students who are interested in the Data Analytics major must first apply and be admitted to The Ohio State University. On the application you will want to indicate your interest in the Data Analytics major within the College of the Arts and Sciences.

Data Analytics pre-Major Program

Upon being selected for admission into The Ohio State University and choosing Data Analytics as your major, students will be placed into the pre-major for the Data Analytics program. The pre-major program allows you to complete Data Analytics focused course work in your first year at Ohio State. Additionally, students will be assigned to work directly with the major advisor for the Data Analytics program. Incoming transfer students will be evaluated for direct admission into the program (see below); students with pre-major status who are not directly admitted into the major will need to complete an application process once they arrive on campus in order to be considered for the Data Analytics major program.

Direct Admission of Transfer Students into Data Analytics

The Data Analytics program will admit transfer students directly to the major program.  Review of direct admission status for incoming transfer students will occur prior to the start of each semester (Note: Transfer students must come to orientation already listed as a Data Analytics student in order to be evaluated for direct admission. Transfer students who change their major at orientation, or after orientation, will need to speak with the major advisor regarding direct admission into the major prior to the start of their first semester).

In order to be evaluated for direct admission, transfer students must complete the following at least two (2) weeks prior to attending their orientation:

1) Ensure Data Analytics was selected as your major of choice on your application to The Ohio State University.

2) Have your current or previous institution send your final transcript to Ohio State's Undergraduate Admissions Office (Note: This is NOT automatically done by your previous institution):

3) Follow the instructions to have your Math credit evaluated

4) Follow the instructions to run a Transfer Credit Report [pdf]

5) On your Transfer Credit Report, locate any courses that are labeled G000.XX or S000.XX. For all such courses, find the appropriate Transfer Credit Coordinator and contact them to have your classes evaluated. This is extremely important for any courses in CSE or Statistics. Without prior evaluation of all Math, CSE, and Statistics courses, students will not be eligible for direct admission into the major.

The admissions committee will review the academic profile of all pre-major students in order to determine direct admission status. Students will be reviewed holistically for purposes of direct admission to the major, with an emphasis on prior performance in relevant Examination Credit (AP/IB scores), evaluated transfer credit, and standardized test (SAT/ACT) scores. Preference will be given to students with strong academic records in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Direct admission to the major is in no way guaranteed regardless of prior performance and test scores.

Important Information Regarding Time to Degree Completion

The Data Analytics program at The Ohio State University is a new and exciting program with a specially designed curriculum. As such, students at other institutions wishing to complete this major program are encouraged to transfer as soon as possible to The Ohio State University. The curriculum of this program has a strong pre-requisite structure that is strictly enforced and must be followed by all students. Additionally, many of the required courses are only offered one time per year. In most cases, the curriculum of this program will require students to study for a full 4 years at The Ohio State University regardless of your number of credit hours completed or standing at your current institution (*Estimated time to graduation assumes students are eligible for enrollment in, or have credit for, Math 1151 at the time they begin at The Ohio State University).
